Another name for a mask.

Media Browser

A panel that is an alternate way of importing media into Premiere Pro. Unlike the Import command, the Media Browser can apply ingest settings and better preserve some multiple-file clip packages such as AVCHD content.

media cache

A folder of pre-rendered sequence frames that are retained so that Premiere Pro can quickly play them back, instead of having to recalculate them every time they’re played back.

Mercury Playback Engine

A set of technologies by Adobe Systems, developed to make video editing faster and more responsive. It takes advantage of multithreaded 64-bit CPU processing, RAM, fast storage, and graphics hardware in whatever combination is available.

metadata

Informational data about a source asset. It can be intrinsic properties of a file, such as file size, running time, format, or it can be data added by the user such as keywords or copyright information.

model release

A legal release that says the subject of content (such as a person seen in a video clip of photograph) grants permission to the creator to publish the work containing the subject’s likeness.

modifier key

A key that you hold down to change the function of a feature or keyboard shortcut. For example, pressing the I key sets the In point in the Source or Program panel, but if you press the I key and the Shift key, the Shift key modifies the I key so that it now goes to the In point.

multicam

Editing clips from multiple cameras that recorded the same scene at the same time to provide the editor with options such as different angles or focal lengths.

multiplexing

How multiple signals are combined into a single signal, such as when audio and video are combined during exporting.

mute

Silence an audio track.
