safe margins

Guides that mark the area of a frame within which text and all of the important action should be composed. Content composed outside the safe margins may be cut off on screens that overscan.

scratch disk

A storage location used for various types of audio and video temporary files that are cached or rendered while capturing, importing, or editing video. Each project can have its own scratch disk locations. Scratch disks save the most time when they are both large and very fast.

scrub

Adjust a value interactively and visually by dragging the mouse while you watch the results change. You can scrub by dragging the playhead along a time ruler, or you can scrub a setting for an effect such as Opacity by dragging the displayed value.

A series of video clips on one or more tracks. It can include other content such as audio clips and still images. A sequence uses specific video and audio settings, such as 4K video.

slide edit

An edit involving a clip that already exists in a sequence, as if it was slid forward or back in time in front of adjacent clips, so that the only changes are to the Out point of the preceding clip and the In point of the following clip.

slip edit

An edit involving a clip that already exists in a sequence, where the only changes are to the In point and Out point of the clip, as if it has been slipped behind adjacent clips.

solo

Play an audio track alone by silencing all other audio tracks.

Clips as they exist on their own and individually, not as part of a sequence.
