T

temperature

In image editing, the warmth or coolness of the overall color balance in a frame, along a blue-yellow axis. Based on the concept of color temperature on the Kelvin scale.

thumbnail

An icon that contains a small visual preview of a clip’s contents.

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format)

Graphics format for still images. Supports many types of compression, along with alpha channels for high-quality transparency. Suitable for print as well as video.

time remapping

Speeding up or slowing down the playback speed of a clip over time, instead of changing playback to a single speed for its entire duration.

Timeline

The part of the Timeline panel that contains clips sequenced along a time ruler, on one or more tracks. Timeline is sometimes used as a synonym for sequence.

tint

The color balance in a frame along a magenta-green axis.

title

Text superimposed on a video frame. Not only for the title of a video, it can refer to any text, including lower-thirds text and end credits, but not open or closed captions.

transcoding

Re-encoding or converting clips to a different format. Often done for easier editing. For example, H.264 can be a processor-intensive codec for editing, so transcoding source clips to a Cineform or Apple ProRes codec can result in smoother editing.

transition

A method of gradually transforming from one clip to another, added at an edit point. For example, during a crossfade transition, the first clip gradually disappears as the second clip gradually appears at the same time.

trim

Adjust how much of a clip is used in a sequence by adjusting the In point or Out point.
